Sixth Annual ComPassion Golf Tournament Hits a Hole-in-One for Kids

Passion Food Hospitality Raises $250,000 [6 years] to benefit

Children’s Health Facilities in Washington, DC

Passion Food Hospitality, operators of DC Coast, Ceiba, Acadiana, PassionFish, and, opening in September, District Commons and Burger, Tap & Shake, hosted its sixth annual ComPassion Golf Tournament, raising $40,000, this year alone, to benefit The Children’s Inn at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), who acts as a healing environment and home away from home for sick children and their families as they receive medical treatment at NIH.

For the past five years, Passion Food Hospitality has proudly contributed approximately $200,000 to the Children’s National Medical Center since 2006, through this annual golf tournament spear-headed by Passion Food Hospitality founding partners Chef Jeff Tunks, David Wizenberg, and Gus DiMillo.  As one of the top pediatric hospitals in the country, the Children’s National Medical Center is the only health system in the Mid-Atlantic region dedicated to the care of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults.  For the sixth year, Passion Food Hospitality added to its contribution a new children’s facility to receive the donation this year as there are several places in the metro area needing attention and support from outside sources.

"When researching charities, we read articles about the hospital and other childcare health services falling short of their fundraising goals and felt so strongly about supporting this cause," Wizenberg said. "Many of our chefs and Passion Food Hospitality employees are parents themselves. This is a fun way for everyone to get outside and play a round of golf and score a hole-in-one for kids."

Such a significant financial contribution from Passion Food Hospitality will help give ill children and their families a more promising future by influencing the course of medical research.  Yet as encouraging as this progress is, worlds of work remain.  Simply stated, the partners, family, and friends of Passion Food Hospitality, participating year after year, are completely devoted to raising funds to help children in need of medical attention.  “With each year, the urgency to unravel the mysteries of illnesses that confound us grows, and it gives us some hope that our annual donation may help spare future generations of children the handicaps of birth defects and fatal health issues,” said Chef Jeff Tunks.

This year, family and friends of Passion Food Hospitality hitting the links included BB&T, CB Richard Ellis, Heineken, and tournament winner, JRS—a commercial kitchen design and equipment company.

Passion Food Hospitality is deeply grateful to its volunteers, vendors, and special guests for their dedicated ongoing support of the Children’s National Medical Center and The Children’s Inn at NIH.  Giving back to the community is a core value of the Passion Food group, and it is their belief that a community is fundamentally built on the next generation.
