Loft 523
Loft 523 – Temporarily closed for repairs necessitated by Hurricane
Katrina - Opened April 2002 – Sean Cummings, visionary real estate developer
and owner of International House, has done it again, introducing Loft
523, the first all-loft hotel, to the city of New Orleans. Housed in an old
carriage and dry-goods warehouse in the Central Business District, just a few
minutes’ walk from the French Quarter, the space within has been converted into
18 lofts (3 of which are penthouses) with 12-foot ceilings, floor-to-ceiling
windows, ceiling fans, and architectural details kept from the original
structure. The hotel’s wireless/cableless 3mg Internet access system allows
guests to stay connected anywhere throughout the hotel and bar. The furnishings
are Italian; they are contemporary and comfortable—two words that do not always
go together. Sit in your own Herman Miller desk chair while light from the
Fortuny tripod floorlamp illuminates your space and tunes from the Sony
Lifestyle CD/DVD surround sound stereo sooth your nerves. Each loft provides
further sanctuary in its spa-like limestone bathroom, complete with an exquisite
Agape "spoon" tub and a double-headed shower. And, like loa at its sister
property International House, the bar at Loft 523 is one of the
hottest places in town.
